Funny how one associates things. Rockford to me automatically brings to mind the movie about baseball "A league of Their Own" and the Rockford Peaches. There is a team here but they are the "Rivets".
Anyway, after riding 400 miles today, here we are in the midwest and what a day it was.
We started in Michigan to a beautiful, clear and cool morning and had great riding up until noontime. we rode 200 miles in the first 4 hours or so and were feeling pretty good so we decided to get to the other side of Chicago. Well the afternoon was quite a different story. We ran into a huge traffic jamb near Chicago where we made just 35 miles in about 2 hours. It was hot, we were surrounded by trucks and the motorcycles were like sitting on an oven. Needless to say, we ended the day tired and hungry and the pool at the hotel was like heaven.
The good part is that for the rest of our trip we should be done with interstates and big city traffic as we plan to travel mostly on secondary roads now. It will give us a nice view of a part of the country that I have not yet seen. We are about 800 miles from Mount Rushmore which is one of our major goals for this trip.

So tomorrow we will get another early start and head west again across the midwest. Looking forward to seeing a new part of our country.
