RUSHMORE TO GLACIER IN TWO DAYS.
By the time yesterday was done, I was just too tired to write so here is the report of the past two days.
As we approached Billings Montana, things started to get very interesting. First, we began to see the mountains in the distance then the mountains were suddenly obscured by a black curtain of a cloud that was headed right for us. We got off the highway and headed for the local Harley dealer. About a mile from the stop, the winds picked up and were more severe than any I have ever experienced on a motorcycle. It literally blew me across my lane. We made it to the dealer and they allowed us to shelter our bikes and hang out until the storm passed.
Once we left the sun broke through until the next cloud bank that appeared about 70 miles from our final destination. We stopped and put on our rain gear and just as we left the rest area, the temperature dropped 40 degrees and the rain started. It continued on and off until we got to our hotel in Bozeman, 480 miles in, wet, cold and tired.
So getting 480 in yesterday left us with a really easy 300 miles today. Again, we were greeted by a beautiful morning and throughout the day we saw some of the most beautiful country I have been through. I am always in awe of each new part of this country and the absolute beauty that exists throughout. We spent most of the day on Montana mountain roads. If there is a word to describe it maybe it is awesome, or beautiful, or breathtaking or maybe there isn't adequate words to describe it unless you actually see it. We arrived in Kalispell, Montana mid afternoon and spent the rest of the day exploring our options for tomorrow and our first day at Glacier, washing the Harleys and buying picnic food to take with us. we will rest up tonight as we anticipate exploring Glacier National Park for the next few days.
I am having some trouble with uploading so i will share lots more pictures later.........
Yesterday was one of those days on the road that presented several challenges both from mother nature and the highway department and add to that our own challenge of doing 480 miles it was quite a day.
The day started much like all of the days on this trip, clear cool and beautiful. We left Hill city and the first 40 miles or so were without incident. Then it got hot, in the high 90's and we ran into delay after delay where we sat on the hot road and waited for one way traffic. At one point we even were on a road that had been stripped and was soft dirt for a mile or so, that is quite a challenge. Once we got free of the construction, we were treated to mile after mile of beautiful plains, mile after mile of unchanging beautiful plains, ugh, mile after mile!As we approached Billings Montana, things started to get very interesting.
